The article is devoted to the study of the effectiveness and specific features of applying the GROW and CLEAR coaching models in the formation of leadership qualities of military professionals, in particular commanders, officers, and teachers of the subject «Defense of Ukraine». Traditional training methods no longer fully meet contemporary requirements; therefore, coaching is considered a powerful leadership development tool based on horizontal coach–client relationships, self-reflection, goal setting, and responsibility for outcomes. The article analyzes the common characteristics of coaching models (goal orientation, theoretical diversity, and context dependency) and briefly describes a number of models traditionally used in coaching practice (OSKAR, STRIDE, PRACTICE, ACHIEVE). The GROW model (Goal – Reality – Options – Way Forward) is examined in detail, with each stage described through examples of coaching questions and practical applications aimed at enhancing team motivation during prolonged military training. Its advantages (simplicity, logical structure, and result orientation) and limitations (insufficient attention to behavioral change and interpersonal relationships) are identified. As an alternative, the CLEAR model (Contracting – Listening – Exploring – Action – Review) is presented, emphasizing the quality of coaching relationships, active listening, reflection, and long-term development. An example of applying the CLEAR model to address unit motivation challenges during extended rotations is provided, with a detailed description of stages and guiding questions.uk_UA
